Today the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is to schedule a date for the conduct of the supplementary governorship election in Anambra State.
As the Saturday-Sunday poll was cancelled in some areas after the irregularities had been observed in terms of election conduct, it became necessary to carry out supplementary election.
The winner could not be declared because of the hurdles placed by the difference in the scores recorded by the highest vote scorer and the total number of registered voters in the areas where the election was cancelled.
INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega’s chief press secretary, Kayode Idowu told the journalists that there is nothing special about the meeting to be held today between the INEC leadership and its field officers. He said that its aim is to debrief the officers on the situation.
Commenting on the date of the additional election, Idowu said,
“That is the issue that will be discussed tomorrow(today) when the leadership of INEC meets; hopefully, barring unforeseen circumstances, at the meeting, a date for the supplementary election in Anambra state will be disclosed to the public”, he said.
